The M cars are BMW's halo cars and distill the very best of their race cars into a street legal car.Ībout the only thing to really lament about BMW's very best cars is they keep getting larger and heavier. It will also be the first, last and only NA V8 ever produced for an M3 given the greater pressure to produce more fuel efficient cars. The E9x M3 was BMW's first mass production M3 with a NA V8 high revving engine. It was one of their best performing cars in motorsports. The E46 M3 was BMW's first M3 with a NA I-6 high revving engine that was the same for both Europe and the US (the E36 had a special US engine). So by default, every new M3 (and M4) will set new standards of what can be done with a car. Arguably every M car BMW produces will have some milestone engineering marvel that will distinguish it from its competitors and raise the bar compared to its predecessors.
